ECHO CURIO strives to funnel local creative energy and mix it with an international body of artists into a central venue where it can develop a regular audience in order to increase cultural liquidity.
Half of the space is a revolving monthly exhibition ranging from outsider/fringe and freak culture to local community-based historical exhibitions. The other half of the space is devoted to affordable creations. We feature and sell everything from small paintings and curious objects to silk screened underwear to handmade musical demos to filmmakers DVDs.

w/ The Sweetback Sisters -
7pm
425 Lafayette Street
New York New York 10003
US
The rollicking country swing of the Sweetback Sisters is as infectious as it is heartbreaking. Their charismatic charm harkens back to the golden era of both the silver screen cowgirl and the ersatz cowboy stars of local UHF TV kiddie shows. That whimsical exterior is wrapped around a core of deeply felt love for traditional country music styles and a palpable joy in playing and singing together. Like their pseudo-sister role models, the Davis Sisters, the Sweetback Sisters sing country songs in close, surrogate-sister harmony and matching dresses. Their repertoire combines several of the Sisters' passions -- country music from before they were born and new interpretations of those traditions -- to create a fresh take on what it means to be country.
The Sweetback line-up features the sugar sweet vocal pairing of Zara Bode and Emily Miller joined by an all-star cast of instrumentalists including: West Virginian triple threat Jesse Milnes; Stefan Amidon on drums; Philly's stringed slayer Ross Bellenoit on electric guitar, and Peter Bitenc on upright bass.

Our first time playing this wonderful hive of old tyme and bluegrass music in Baton Rouge! here's a little taste of what they do:
BR BLUEGRASS NEWS: CLAIRE LYNCH, THE MAYBELLES
From Jonathan Harris:
Greetings: It appears that we will host Claire Lynch and her outstanding travel troupe (including Mark Schatz) to perform Sunday evening Nov. 14 at the Unitarian Church in Baton Rouge (Goodwood Blvd.). The max seated capacity is 300. If we are going to have a demand for 400-500, we need to have an alternate site. I don't yet know what the social schedule might be Sunday or Monday. There will be a JAM Sunday afternoon before the show - and Claire and her group may sit in. We'll schedule Sunday's performance early to fit a week-nite school/work schedule. Maybe Sunday or Monday will afford an opportunity to show a little hospitality; it depends upon their travel schedule. I assume they will drive to Baton Rouge from Mobile on Sunday morning; the Monday destination is yet unsettled.
