It could be 1925 and the Appalachians! A cool clear harmony and narrative driven by the simple guitar cycle and the ghostly violin. Taut vocals and beautiful instrumentation.  Americana UK.

Making waves in the home of country, from a Yorkshire coal mining background whose roots still show...A latter day Loretta Lynn. The Times, London UK.

A beautiful blend of old timey folk and  alt. country       4 1/2 STARS American Roots UK

American Folk Art Museum review by New York Music Daily

NYC shows often include special guests from the thriving Brooklyn country music community. Philippa Thompson steps in regularly on Mandolin, washboard, and the Saw; Megan Palmer, now in Nashville plays violin or piano; Katy Stone (banjo); and May 'bro' Tim Luntzel on upright bass. Past members of The Maybelles as well - Hilary Hawke (banjo), Katy Rose Cox (violin), and founding member Melissa Carper (upright bass) step in when not on tour, or are back in Brooklyn.

Jan spent several years traveling the back roads of North America and was introduced to the American Folk communtiy by Jason Eklund.  New Orleans, the Ozarks, Oregon, New Mexico and Colorado were all Home to them. In 2000 Jan settled in a neighborhood by The Brooklyn Bridge known as Dumbo (Down under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass), and put together her first country band. Since then she has made six albums, solo and as band leader of  The Maybelles. Accompaniment tends to comprise violin, banjo, upright bass, piano, and/or lap steel.
