2017 was a big year for The Maybelles. We saw the birth of Nola in May, daughter of Tina Lama Upright Bass. And in June baby boy Silvan - son of Rima Fand who has played violin and sang with Jan Bell since 2000. The trio took an 18 month break, whereby Jan focussed on the Brooklyn Americana Music Festival. The festival is rooted in the now defunct Dumbo Arts Festival where Jan curated stages at multiple locations since 1999. After that festival folded, Jan kept the dates, and in 2018 ten stages showcased local and touring Americana artists all along the Brooklyn Waterfront from Dumbo to Red Hook and saw over 5000 attendees. Tonight celebrates 'Goodbye to the River' an album that addresses waterfront gentrification in the neighborhoods where Jan Bell continues to play and produce live music at several well loved venues, and two outdoor venues The Dumbo Archway and Brooklyn Bridge Park. A free festival for All Ages.
